          • Lion King Kids Characters & Casting

            Lion King Kids

            Character Breakdown

3 Rafikis - A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. The Rafiki narrators are the leading villagers who become the story's narrators.

Mufasa - The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Mufasa should command respect onstage and also show tenderness with his son, Simba. We will cast a mature actor who can convincingly portray the king for this non-singing part.

Sarabi - Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother, maternal to Simba and the powerful leader of the lionesses.

Zazu - The funny & anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty.

Scar - The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands.

Young Simba - An adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive.

Simba - Grows from a cub to lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar.

Young Nala - A courageous lion and Young Simba's best friend. She is not afraid to speak her mind. While

Nala - Grows from a cub to a lioness before she confronts Scar, so we will cast an older actress.

Banzai - A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He or she would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy. Banzai is always featured with Shenzi and Ed as a trio of trouble.

Shenzi - One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. He or she is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself. With Banzai and Ed,  will need to be able to laugh loudly and long, as well as be menacing to Young Simba and Young Nala.

Ed - The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He or she has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Ed will be played by an actor who can cackle unabashedly and make the audience laugh.

Additional Hyenas -Scar's army, helping carry out his evil plot to take over the Pridelands. Hyenas are mangy, mindless creatures who sing in "Be Prepared."

Timon - An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo. Timon is one of the funniest characters in the show and will be played by a charismatic actor who understands comic timing.

Pumbaa - A kindhearted, sensitive warthog who enjoys his simple life of grubs and relaxation. We will cast an actor who can portray this oveable and loyal friend to Timon and Simba with deadpan humor.

Villagers - Our entire cast will portray villagers, with central characters emerging from this essential group. Some villagers will play many roles in the story, from animals of the Pridelands (such as giraffes, elephants, lionesses, etc.) to hyenas to wildebeest. Whenever not speaking as their assigned characters, cast members will return to their villager characters, singing with the ensemble.

"We just wanted to tell you how impressed we were with the performance last night. It blew us away. The kids were amazing.

We are so grateful to you for what you do for the community and for our daughter specifically. She has grown so much since she started with you and just loves performing. You have taught her so much.

Beyond that, the community you have fostered with the kids is a very nice bonus. She is making real friends!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

Our 2021 Winter Break Camp was a blast. We worked on cold reads, improvisation, singing harmony, matching pitch, stretching and dance skills daily. We also enjoyed the incredible views and playground whenever possible. The kids also participated in karaoke fun, a New Year's Eve party, a Secret Santa gift exchange and a fun Storytime for the community.
